About the Resource Center

The Skillman Center’s Resource Center has a variety of additional resources on this topic and many others related to urban children, youth and families. Staff members are available to assist you in finding books, videos, other material and Internet resources. All materials can be borrowed for two weeks and there is no fee for this service.

 

The Resource Center is located in the Skillman Building at 100 E. Palmer, Detroit (on the corner of John R and Palmer).  The Center is open from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Please call (313) 872-7166 for more information.

Programs for Early Childhood

 To search for programs that help parents of pre-schoolers and toddlers and for programs that directly serve young children in Detroit, please read the following instructions, then go to the Skillman Center for Children's youth directory, www.detroitkids.org . Parenting 

1. Click on help for youth.

2. Choose help for parents and guardians.

3.  Choose parenting from the pull down menu. Click search.

 

Head Start 

1. Click on activities for youth.

2. Choose education.

3.  Choose head start from the pull down menu. Click search.

 

Pre-School 

1. Click on activities for youth.

2. Choose education.

3.  Choose pre-school from the pull down menu. Click search.

 

All other activities 

1. Click on activities for youth.

2. Choose the type of activity you are looking for (arts, sports etc.).

3.  Choose the specific activity and age of the child from the pull down menu. Click search.
